The "Smart Python Simulation Environment, aka Spies, aka Spice" is a framework for building multi-agent systems in Python. Quoting the Author, a "multi-agent system (MAS) combines concepts from distributed computing and artificial intelligence. Agents are autonomously reasoning software entities that can collaborate (or compete) in order to achieve a (common) goal".
The project, originally hosted at Zope (it looks like now its Author, Andre P Meyer, found a new home for it at google code), provides a means to build agent systems where the single agents can use several reasoning techniques, from simple hard-coded systems to complex rule based programs. At the time when SPySE was released PyCLIPS was still quite unstable, but now it is mature enough to provide the intelligence for an agent.
